In November 2015, a stalwart of the Red Roos during the 1990s (incl a four-time JWOC rep), Rebecca Minty is heading to New York to run in her first marathon! What an opportunity to participate in this huge event, but more importantly she is excited that in the process she will be raising money for Amnesty - a fantastic NGO that has been working for the past 50 years to end torture and protect human rights and has over 4.6 million supporters around the world. Preventing torture and ill-treatment in detention is an issue close to her heart.  She is so excited that the money raised will support Amnesty's great human rights work in Australia including trying to get kids out of immigration detention, and reducing rates of indigenous incarceration.  Any donation to
https://newyork2015.everydayhero.com/au/rebecca would be very much appreciated.

One of Rebecca’s fund-raising activities will be a dinner on Saturday 15 August 2015, at the Deakin Bridge Club (behind Deakin Shops) at 6:30 for 7:00pm. It will an old-fashioned function often staged by the Red Roos during the 1990s.  The food will include homemade curries (by Dad, Len), deliciously-sweet deserts (by her sister Julia and others!) and string music by her talented friends. Not to mention fun games, activities, trivia and prizes. Everyone is invited her NY Marathon dinner; just BYO yourself and alcohol :-) Suggested donation for all this food and fun is $60 which will all go straight to Amnesty International (and my target of $10K). Rebecca would love to see you and your friends there, please feel free to circulate far and wide and bring a friend or a table-worth of people! If you can make it please RSVP to Rebecca rebecca@leitches.com  by  Saturday 1 August. Hope to see you there!
