Bushflyer Lachlan Dow - Wednesday's search for King of the Mountain
Tuesday, 25 November 2014
The Runners Shop Twilight Series is heating up! And not just
because summer is only just around the corner. Next Wednesday at Campbell Park
both orange courses will feature a tough “King of the Mountain” leg, a test of
any runner’s hill climbing ability. Bushflyer and local elite Lachlan Dow has set courses
with enjoyment in mind, as well as one control containing almost the entire
course climb. The incentive for running fast to this control is a bottle of
wine and a voucher entitling one free entry to any ACT Twilight Series or
Saturday Series event for the fastest male and female split. The leg is only on
orange 1 and the split times will be handicapped, so the field is wide open.
For the under twelve competitors on the green course there is prizes for the
fastest girl and boy as well.
We hope to see you there! Scroll down for more news stories on the Twilight Series, Primary School Champs and Annual Dinner.

Top Guns Are Firing in Twilight Series
Monday, 10 November 2014
Photo:
from left Lizzie Ingham, David Shepherd, Lachlan Dow
The
top guns are firing in the 2014-15 Runners Shop Twilight Series. After the first four rounds, Lizzie Ingham
heads the progress points table with 250 points from her best two scores just ahead of David Shepherd on 249,
Lachlan Dow on 245 and Trevor Jacobs on 243 points. While Jacobs is a five times winner, Ingham,
Shepherd and Dow have never won the series.
Unlike
the ACT League where competitors’ corrected times (adjusted for age and gender)
are compared to par km rates and points are awarded on the basis of relativity
to the par km rates, for the Twilight Series competitors are ranked simply in
order of corrected km rates, with the competitor with the fastest km rate being
awarded 125 points, and the following placegetters awarded 124, 123, 122 points
to a minimum of 25 points for all finishers
from 100th place onwards.
The
competition is based on only Orange (moderate) or harder courses and again
unlike the ACT League, the competition is open to all comers. There is no
requirement to be a member of Orienteering ACT as there is for the ACT League.
The competition rules are here.
The
top three competitors in the first four events were:
15 October. The
Pinnacle: David Shepherd (125), Toni Brown (124) and Arthur Watson (123) 22 October. Mt
Majura West: Wayne Gregson (125), Zoe Melhuish (124), Caitlin Young (123) 29 October: Red
Hill South: Lizzie Ingham (125), Kristapa Jaudezems (124),
Lachlan Dow (123) 5 November:
Cooleman Ridge: Lizzie
Ingham (125), David Shepherd (124), Trevor Jacobs (123)
The
progress points table is here. Copies of the maps and photos from the first four events are at OACT FaceBook.
With over
1,000 competitors in the competition data base and newcomers being added every
week, errors may occur with the YOB and gender of competitors. Random audits
are conducted from time to time, and scores are corrected if a competitor’s YOB
or gender is found to be incorrect.
The
next event will be at Aranda Hill on Wednesday.
